Insinkerator Evolution Compact Disposal Installation

Many users commented that the mounting is very simple and easy. This is also true if you're a first timer who got zero experience and skills. The mounting bracket called the quick lock sink mount use a simple way to install the disposal.

You just need to twist it on and off. In fact, using the stainless steel sink mounting proved to be a fast setup for most consumers.

Even if you are doing the installation like a layman, don't be afraid. The product comes with simple to follow step by step instruction manual with pictures to guide you along the way.

You have a choice if you already have an Insinkerator disposer installed. Having an existing unit does make the mounting task easier for you. If you want to keep the sink flange, use the existing installation bracket. But make sure it's in a good working condition.

You "snap" the existing unit out and then put in place the new disposal. Connect back the discharge pipe, followed by the dishwasher connection (if you have one). You do not have to take out the existing bracket and avoided the need to apply the plumber's putty.

Here is a list of what's included in the package.

1. Stopper

2. Sink baffle

3. Quick lock sink mount which consists the following items:
  •  Sink flange
  •  Fiber gasket
  •  Backup flange
  •  Mounting ring
  •  *1-1/2" screws (3 nos.)
  •  *1-1/8" screws (3 nos.)
  •  Snap ring
Note: *You use either one depending on your sink thickness.

4. Insinkerator Evolution Compact disposal (comes with anti-vibration mount and anti-vibration tailpipe mount)

5. Jam-buster wrench

6. Spring type hose clamp (make sure you use this clamp instead of others in order not to void the warranty)

7. L-shaped discharge tube

8. Straight discharge tube

9. Installation instructions

Points to take note before installation:

1. A few items are not supplied with the package. The items are as follows:

  • Plumber’s putty - You need to apply fresh plumber's putty around the new flange to seal it onto the sink hole. This is to prevent any leakage between the two surfaces. This is not required if you intend to keep your existing Insinkerator sink flange.

  • A cable connector - To secure the electrical cable entry to the unit at the bottom.*

  • 2 nos. of wire nuts - To connect the disposal wiring to the electrical cable (power source).*

  • Power cord - Unless you are using a direct connection (or hard wired) you will need to buy a power cord. If you've an existing installation that comes with a power cord, you can use back the cable. Do the necessary inspection to make sure it's safe and in a good working condition. Whatever wiring connection you do, it must follow your state/country wiring regulation.*

*Update: There is an option to get one that comes with power cord kit in Amazon right now.

2. If you've a kitchen sink thicker than 3/8", use the supply 1-1/8" screws. This is to tighten the mounting ring to the sink flange.

3. Some users got difficulty holding the new disposal in place before twisting it into the mount. A few users suggested a good idea of using a car jack for support or ask for a second helping hand.

4. If you want to connect your dishwasher to the disposal, remember to knock out the drain plug.

5. Read the instructions manual first even if you done it before. Just in case something has changed or it might answer some of your doubts. It is always better to know what to expect before doing the actual installation.

Sound Level

Insinkerator stated that noise levels is reduced to at least 30% when compare with other household disposals.

As mentioned earlier, it makes use of the SoundSeal technology to achieve this result.

The technology consists of a few components:

Anti-Vibration Mount
This anti-vibration mount has a layer of rubber place between the top of unit and lower mounting ring. When the motor runs, the rubber cut down the sound level and vibration transfer from disposer to sink. As a result, the noise level output will be lower.

Anti-Vibration Tailpipe Mount
The tailpipe mount has rubbers to reduce vibrations transfer from disposal to discharge piping.

Quiet Collar Sink Baffle
The concept here is to collect a pool of water in the sink's opening. This layer of water obstructs the noise level coming from the disposal below the sink.

Sound Limiter Insulation
The insulation wrapped around the disposal motor provides another layer of noise reduction.

Insinkerator Model Evolution Compact Operation

This model has a Dura-Drive induction motor that offer you high performance plus reliability.

It has a powerful 3/4 horsepower to grind most types of scrap food.

The most important feature for this unit is the MultiGrind technology.

The company claims that this technology can grind your most difficult waste food into fine particles.

It offers you 2 stages of grinding operation as opposed to only 1 stage with most garbage disposals.

It has a GrindShear ring that grinds and shears your scrap food into fine particles.

The first stage grinds your food waste against the surface of the ring into particles. In the second stage, the particles are forced into a series of small pass-through windows.

This extra action grinds them even further to become smaller particles.

A jam-buster wrench used in the event a jam occurs is provided for you.

What Are The Comments?

Most of the users are happy that they have purchased this unit. A few users commented it's a good value product and well worth the money.

Many users praised the disposal for its quietness during the grinding operation. It was so silent the users thought the unit is faulty or not operating when they turn on the first time.

They are also pleased with its performance. They said it's very powerful and handle almost all waste food without any problem. Another strong point is its compact size and simple installation.

There is one complaint about the sink baffle. Some users commented it tends to obstruct water or food waste going down the disposer. This is not a major problem since most users don't have this draining issue.

Based on the reply by the manufacturer, they stated the design of the sink baffle is to create a pool of water on top of it. This is to reduce the noise level coming from the disposal mouth. They also said that to feed the disposal with waste food, you just need to push them beyond the rubber baffle. You can use something like a utensil to do this task. According to them, this standard method applies for all household disposal brands.

We think that if you feed the scrap food in a slow manner and keep the water flowing, everything should be in order.
