Insinkerator Evolution Excel 1.0 HP Installation

What we like about Insinkerator brand is their stainless steel mounting bracket. The Quick Lock Sink Mount is universal for all models that includes Badger 5 garbage disposal. It gives you a fast and easy way to assembles or replaces your existing Insinkerator disposal.

You twist it "off" to dismount. And twist it "on" to mount. The installation manual is clear and simple to ensure you get everything right. Moreover, it also includes diagrams to give you a better picture or clarification.

Due to the heavy weight (around 23 lbs.), you might need a helping hand. Especially when doing the alignment before locking your unit with the mounting ring.

If you can't find any helper, you can make use of thick books or a small jack to hold the unit in place. These helpful tips came from the customer reviews when we’re going through them.

Remember to knock out the drain plug if you intend to connect to your dishwasher. Do it before mounting. Take note if your sink thickness is more than 3/8". If so, change the existing 1-1/2” screws to 1-1/8” screws.

Based on what we’ve read from the user feedback, the installation process seems to range from an hour to two. If you replace a smaller size kitchen disposal, you might need to redo all the plumbing pipes. The original configuration could not fit a much bigger unit. Hence, the duration might be longer than expected.

The package comes with all the things you need for doing the installation except for a few minor items such as:
  1. A cable connector

  2. Plumbers putty

  3. 2 nos. of wire nuts.

  4. A power cord for the incoming supply.

If you’ve an outlet under your sink or going to install a new one, then you need to buy a power cord separately. You could have these accessories at home or use back those from the old disposer you’re replacing. Check to ensure they're still in good working condition before using them.

Noise Reduction Technology

The manufacturer claimed that this model is 60% more sound resistance than other standard garbage disposals.

We do an intensive research and found they've added features to make it more soundproof.

Using their own exclusive SoundSeal Plus technology, it gives you an ultra-quiet performance.

You can have a normal conversation while your unit is operating at the same time. They've added layers of insulation to isolate noise and vibrations from all parts of the unit.

Here's a list of what the SoundSeal Plus Technology is offering:

Quiet Collar Sink Baffle

quiet collar sink baffle video

This special design item is placed on the mouth of the kitchen sink. Its main role is to create a thin layer of water on top of the sink opening. And block out noise coming from the grinding garbage disposal.

Anti-Vibration Mount

anti-vibration sink mount video

It has a rubber connection between the disposal opening and mounting bracket. This is to reduce vibration and cut down sound generated.

Anti-Vibration Tailpipe Mount

It has a rubber connection between the disposer discharge outlet and drainage pipe. This is to eliminate noise generated from vibrations.

Multi-Layer SoundLimiter Insulation

This is a form of insulation with multi-layer wrapped around the garbage disposal body. The purpose is to dampen and trap sound coming from the unit.

Grinding Operation Technology

Insinkerator Evolution Excel uses MultiGrind Plus Technology to grind waste food into superfine particles.

With those tiny particles, it's easy to wash them down your pipe.

So you reduce or eliminate any chances of clogging and jamming.

The MultiGrind system is so powerful that it grinds most of your food waste in a quick manner.

It also has a 3 stage grinding system and a Jam-Sensor Circuit to enhance the grinding operation.

Here is a summary of the function for each feature:

GrindShear Ring

grindshear ring video

The 1st and 2rd stage of grinding took place here.

The 1st stage starts with the grinding on the rotating shredder plate with 2 swivel lugs.

The 2rd stage involves forcing the food particles through a series of window. And use a shearing motion to cut them into even finer particles.

As the name implies, it grinds and shear your food waste.

Tri-Action Lug System

tri-action lug system video

The Tri-Action Lug System consists of fix plugs on the shredder plate and has 2 functions.

Firstly, it helps to grind your food waste into finer particles.

And secondly, it rinses the grind chamber with water to keep it clean after each grinding.

Undercutter Disk

undercutter disk video

A 3rd stage grinding that further reduces the size of your food particles. After the GrindShear Ring, the undercutter disk cuts your food particles one more time.

Jam-Sensor Circuit

jam-sensor circuit video

A microprocessor on the circuit automatically detects when a jam is about to happen.

When it does, it alerts the motor to increase the rotational torque to break through the jam. And if needed, it also reverse its direction.

Everything happens in the background. So you don’t know when the circuit triggers the alarm.

1 HP Heavy Duty Dura-Drive Motor

A very powerful motor meant for tough jobs in your kitchen sink. It operates smoothly and has a long lifespan.

Auto-Reverse Grind System

This automated feature reverses the grind direction to prevent any jam that might happen.

Consumer Reviews

There are tons of positive reviews on Amazon. And here is a summary of what we found in the consumer reviews on Amazon.

Installation is simple and easy using the Quick Collar Sink Mount. The instructions guide that comes with illustration is clear and detailed. The unit is heavy so you need a helping hand or find other means to lift it up during mounting.

This model is almost noiseless when grinding. And you’re unaware that it is actually running or you thought it’s not working at all. A few claimed that they can hear the water running instead of the disposer.

It gives you whisper quiet operation to the extent that someone wished it has a bit more noise. So that they know the grinding has stopped. Watching TV or having a conversation while using the disposal is not a problem at all.

Grind almost everything you throw into the food disposer without any issue. It does the job quickly and smoothly. The majority of the consumers are very pleased with its grinding performance.

Most users are happy to have paid an expensive price for this high end product. They stated that the high cost is worth for what is offered in this product. They are extremely satisfied with the way it is chewing up the food waste and how super quiet the unit is.

Pros & Cons

Pros:
1. Installation - Extremely easy to mount and dismount using Quick Lock Sink Mount. Universal mounting brackets for all Insinkerator brand garbage disposal. If you're replacing an old Insinkerator disposer, you can use the existing mounting bracket.

2. Noise - You hear almost nothing when it grinds. No problem when you are holding a conversation, watching TV or even when your baby is sleeping at the moment.

3. Grinding - You can grind most waste food without any issue.

4. Nice layout - Look elegant with the stainless steel finish. Too bad it's installed under your sink.

5. 1 HP Dura-Drive Motor - An extremely powerful motor that offers you a fast and smooth grinding operation.

6. Stainless steel grind components and chamber - Stainless steel material ensures longer usage and durability.

Cons:
1. High cost - Since this is a high end product, it will cost more. Consumers who brought and used it find it’s well worth the price. A few even stated that they have no problem recommending this product to relatives or friends.

2. Big size - Some household might have this issue due to limited space underneath the sink. If you’ve this problem, you can check out another smaller version. This model has a 3/4 HP instead of 1 HP. Read our Insinkerator Evolution Compact review post to find out more.

3. Slow drainage - A few users have complained about the slow drainage that causes the water to back up in the sink. This is due to the small opening in the Quiet Collar Sink Baffle that restricts the water flow.

This is not a flaw. It's the design of the baffle to create a thin layer of water on top of the sink opening. The purpose is to dampen the sound that comes from the disposal below. But, most consumers do not find the slow drainage to be a problem at all.

One user who had this issue replaced it with InSinkErator RSB-OO Removable Sound Baffle. It does allow more water and food to flow though, but the noise will increase a bit.

My Final Review & Price

This is what we call the best quality garbage disposal in the market. One plumber even named it as the “Mercedes Benz” of food disposal units.

What’s so unique about this model is their ultimate noise reduction and grinding technology.

Consumers have commented that this “small machine” is almost noiseless when running. You only hear a low humming noise.
